 “I always insist on taking my own photographs for portraits. It’s a way for me to get to know my subject, to see beyond the camera’s image. Very often I will use elements from all of my photos in the composition, but sometimes I’m lucky enough to capture that one pure, self-assured pose that catches the essence of the person I’m painting.”
